Scoliosis: Early Identification of Affected Patients
Pamela Horn, MS, CNP, ONP-C
2012;22(8):16-22

Scoliosis encompasses a wide spectrum of orthopedic issues, from the simple (requiring watchful waiting) to the extreme (requiring multiple surgeries). Scoliosis represents a diagnostic challenge for the clinician, as it can be congenital, neuromuscular, syndrome-related, or idiopathic—as in 80% of cases. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, the most common form of this musculoskeletal diagnosis, is often painless and can be treated nonsurgically if it is identified early.
