Electronic “gadgets” have rapidly become part of life for most Americans, and their presence in clinical settings is a given. Smartphones and other mobile technology have a role in improving patient care, but they can also be distracting when clinicians attempt to mix business and personal use. Is patient safety actually at risk, or in the face of technological progress have many of us simply lost our common sense?
